Damages of Bad Communication

Communication always has a purpose. There is no such thing as a 'purposeless communication', no matter however purposeless or meaningless it appears. Whenever people communicate, they expect an outcome; either in interpersonal level, or intrapersonal.

It is understandable that a person communicate with a positive view in mind: to gain success that is to have the 'receiver' convinced. But no one can expect that s/he will communicate successfully all the time. At some points in life, we all fail to communicate resulting in a 'bad or poor communication' or 'mis-communication'. Successful that is 'good communication' brings positive results while failure to communicate in expected way (that is: 'bad communication') fetches negative outcomes: damages.

If the communication is done successfully, you can achieve good results. But when communication goes wrong, there will be some damages. In brief, some of such damages may include:

•    The time and energy you spend while communicating actually gets wasted.
•    You might lose confidence in yourself either for the failure or for the negative outcomes produced because of it or for both.
•    This might severely damage or at least negatively affect the relationship between the Source (Sender) and the Receiver.
•    It can create stress and frustrations, and pave the way to anxiety among people involved in the communication process.
•    Frustrations and anxiety can lead to fear in future communication (increased Communication Apprehension) that can drastically reduce a person's level of productivity.

But we must keep in mind that failure to communicate well once or twice or even for a few more times does not indicate that a person can never communicate successfully. Communication is an art (and also a science in its own way) that can be taught and learnt. Studying on good communication skills and practicing can help overcome the difficulties one might face in this regard. Observation is another significant way of getting over it.
